A while back, the intrepid cunts decided to add a healthier
option to their list of adventures and ventured out into Mpumalanga for a
two-day hike. Oom Paul’s Backpackers Route is a fucking rad trail that’s about 20km and not too hard – unless you’re a massively lazy fuck. Actually it’s
called a ‘moderately difficult’ trail, but we both managed it and this was
before Lynner became the badass running muthafucka that she is today.
Nature and shit. |
Oom Pauls is on the Five Assegais Country Estate and is one of a couple of trails you can choose from. There are several one-day hikes to go one. Or if you’re hard as fuck, try the five-day Num-Num Trail that stretches out over 42km.
Hiking like a beast. |
But let’s get back to the shit we did – old Oom Paul. You
wind your way down into the gorge and then back up the other side and to add to
the sweet scenery, there is also a waterfall to splash about in if doing it in
the warmer months. You can also choose which camp you want to start at – either
God’s Window or Bermanzi. I recommend starting at Bermanzi. We did it this way
and if you leave after work on a Friday arvie, you won’t get much of a feel for
the first place you sleep and God’s Window was just so goddam beautiful. Don’t
miss out on the loo with a view – bathroom business has never been so
spiritual.
Up and up. |
There was also a rad honesty bar, which means our healthy
weekend became a cheap wine weekend and the second day of hiking tougher than
it should have been. But what can I say? Leopards don’t change their spots and
the two cunts enjoy their drink.
So much of pretty scenery |
If you’re particularly badass (like Lynner is these days)
then give the Num-Num Trail a go. If you’re a particular brand of psycho you
can even run it: They also host a trail run in early
August (36.5 or 15 km), billed as "SA's Toughest Single Day Trail
Run".
